Cape Town has 27 City recycling and waste drop-off facilities plus landfill drop-offs at Coastal Park and Vissershok, and every one of them has its own detail page below. All are free for residents in vehicles under 1.5 tons, with garage waste, builder’s rubble and garden waste capped at three loads per day. Addresses are reproduced exactly as the City publishes them.
The five facilities people ask about most
Hours are the thing that wastes trips: weekday times change with the season, weekend times mostly do not, and the landfill gate on a site keeps different hours from the drop-off gate on the same premises. Start with these five:
- Coastal Park Landfill: Baden Powell Drive, Muizenberg. Landfill weekdays only; its drop-off opens weekends.
- Vissershok Landfill: Frankdale Road off the N7. Opens earliest (07:45), takes low to medium hazardous waste, closed Sundays.
- Prince George Drive Drop-off: Grassy Park. Sundays to 17:00, the latest of any facility we checked, and it takes e-waste.
- Bellville South Landfill Drop-off, runs today as the Bellville Integrated Waste Management Facility, a transfer station; the only site with a household hazardous waste desk (50 kg/person/day, limited asbestos forms).
- Woodstock Drop-off: 25 Beach Road. Summer weekdays to 19:30 and Atlantis runs to 20:00: the network’s two latest closes.

All City drop-off facilities close on Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Not every gate takes every stream: builder’s rubble is refused at Sea Point, Swartklip and Kraaifontein, and the Bellville South Compost Plant sells compost rather than taking waste at all. Free drop-off or a skip: where the line sits
Under three trailer loads of clean, sorted waste, self-hauling to a free drop-off wins on cost every time.
