Vissershok Landfill

Vissershok Landfill is off the N7 on Frankdale Road, near Table View. The landfill site is open Monday to Friday 07:45–15:45 and Saturday 07:30–15:30, closed Sunday. It is the northern counterpart to Coastal Park and the one that takes low to medium hazardous waste.

Early open, early close

Vissershok runs earlier than most people expect. It opens at 07:45, which suits a first-thing load before a working day, but it shuts at 15:45 — a good two hours before Coastal Park’s drop-off facility does in summer. If you are leaving a site at 16:00, Vissershok is already closed.

As at Coastal Park, the landfill and the drop-off facility are separate operations on the same premises with their own hours. The one difference worth knowing: on Saturdays the drop-off stays open until 17:00 while the landfill shuts at 15:30.

Facility When Hours

Drop-off facility Monday to Friday 07:45 – 15:45
Drop-off facility Saturday and public holidays 08:00 – 17:00

All City drop-off facilities are closed on Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The other operational landfill

The City’s other operational landfill is Coastal Park Landfill on Baden Powell Drive in Muizenberg, at the opposite end of the metro. If you are south of the M5 interchange, Coastal Park will almost always be the shorter trip — and its drop-off facility is the only one of the two open on a Sunday.

Rather not do the trip yourself?

A trailer load at a time works for small clean-ups. Once you are past about five or six wheelbarrow loads, the drive, the fuel and the loading usually cost more than having a skip stood on the driveway. Our skip hire prices Cape Town guide lists every size with its price, and rubble removal covers concrete, tile and brick loads specifically. If you are not sure which size you need, the skip sizes guide has the dimensions.
