Frequently Asked Questions: Plattekloof Skip Hire

Do I need a permit to place a skip in Plattekloof?

If your skip is placed on your private property (driveway or garden), no permit is required in Plattekloof. If the skip must go on a public road, pavement or verge, you need the City of Cape Town’s written permission: a Temporary Use (of the road reserve) permit from its Roads Infrastructure Management district office, with a R712 admin fee (2026/27). The skip permit guide explains how to apply.

Where Plattekloof waste actually goes

Check the free option first: your nearest City drop-off is Welgelegen Drop-Off on Akademie Street, open Mon–Fri 08:00 – 18:00 in summer (1 Sep – 30 Apr) and 08:00 – 17:45 in winter. It is free to Plattekloof residents arriving in a car, trailer or LDV under 1.5 tonnes, capped at three loads a day. Clean builder’s rubble is on its accepted list, within that daily cap; anything past the cap is skip territory.

What we collect from Plattekloof is tipped at Vissershok Landfill, the northern of the City’s two operational landfills, under the National Environmental Management: Waste Act 59 of 2008. The disposal fee is inside the hire price, so there is nothing to settle at the gate.
