Frequently Asked Questions: Kirstenhof Skip Hire

Do I need a permit to place a skip in Kirstenhof?

If your skip is placed on your private property (driveway or garden), no permit is required in Kirstenhof. If the skip must go on a public road, pavement or verge, you need the City of Cape Town’s written permission: a Temporary Use (of the road reserve) permit from its Roads Infrastructure Management district office, with a R712 admin fee (2026/27). The skip permit guide explains how to apply.

Which areas near Kirstenhof does Skip Hire ZA also serve?

In addition to Kirstenhof, we deliver skip bins to Diep River, Tokai, and all of Cape Town’s deep Southern Suburbs. The same trucks run Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs, so Kirstenhof is usually on the same route as Steenberg and Retreat. If you need skip hire for a property just outside Kirstenhof, call 064 582 1436: we’ll confirm availability.

Where Kirstenhof waste actually goes

Weigh the free trip against the hire: the closest City site to you is Retreat Drop-Off on Tenth Avenue, open Mon–Fri 08:00 – 18:00 in summer (1 Sep – 30 Apr) and 08:00 – 17:45 in winter. It is free to Kirstenhof residents arriving in a car, trailer or LDV under 1.5 tonnes, capped at three loads a day. Clean builder’s rubble is on its accepted list, within that daily cap; anything past the cap is skip territory.

What we collect from Kirstenhof is tipped at Coastal Park Landfill, the southern of the City’s two operational landfills, under the National Environmental Management: Waste Act 59 of 2008. The disposal fee is inside the hire price, so there is nothing to settle at the gate.
